      Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge

      logo, Healthiest Cities & Counties ChallengeHealth equity is an APHA guiding priority and core value. That's why we have once again teamed up with the Aetna Foundation, the National Association of Counties and Healthy Places by Design to support city- and county-level teams in advancing health equity within their communities through the Healthiest Cities and Counties Challenge.

      The Challenge is an exciting initiative designed to accelerate systems-level approaches to improving community health over a two-year period (July 2020 through September 2022). We do this by supporting selected communities through one-on-one technical assistance from APHA and NACo and peer learning opportunities facilitated by Healthy Places by Design.

      The Challenge provides assistance to 20 communities in California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and West Virginia that are ready to:

      • change the way they work together across sectors;
      • build resident leadership and power; and
      • take collective action.

      Together, we will work to reduce disparities in chronic disease outcomes and promote health equity through improved access to foods that support healthy eating patterns and access to health services.
